Derstine Run Dedicated

Derstine_RunAdvanced Living held a dedication ceremony Thursday afternoon for Derstine Run, an affordable retirement community on Derstine Road, straddling the border between Hatfield and Towamencin Townships. President and CEO Bill Brown addressed the ceremony, saying the need and the demand are great.

“We had 1,200 applications for 59 units.  We had to do a lottery.  We’ve been signing leases for the last five weeks, and by the end of July it will probably be full, so what we’re doing here today is implementing the Gospels and administering the needs of God’s Flock.”

Advanced Living is the faith-based nonprofit organization that also runs the Schwenkfeld Manor Retirement Community.  Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency Executive Director Brian Hudson also addressed the ceremony, saying it’s a high-quality development.

“I had the opportunity to tour some of the units with Bill earlier, and I’m telling you this is the way affordable housing should look.”

Derstine Run will eventually have 240 apartments for low and moderate-income seniors in four low-rise buildings.  Construction on the first building took about a year, and completing all of them could take two to ten years depending on the availability of funding.
