J & J CEO: Ft Washington Plant Not Re-Opening This Year

medical-symbolJohnson and Johnson is not re-opening its McNeil Consumer Healthcare Fort Washington Plant this year. J-and-J Chief Executive Officer Bill Weldon says the plant will probably resume production in 2013, re-built into a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.  The company recalled liquid Children’s Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl and other products and closed the plant in the spring of 2010, after the Food and Drug Administration found bacteria and other contaminants in raw ingredients used to make them.

The company said about a year ago that a review of the Fort Washington Plant, going back as far as 2007, found that certain manufacturing standards and labeling requirements had not been followed.  Meanwhile, certain Tylenol products made at plants in Lancaster and Puerto Rico are slowly returning to the market.
