Lansdale officials want to make it safer for pedestrians to cross West Main Street. They plan to install safety enhancements at the crosswalks near Madison, Susquehanna and Wood Streets. The upgrades include bright yellow-green signs to make motorists aware that pedestrians could be entering the roadway. In addition, a high visibility material called thermo-plastic will be used to mark the crosswalk on the street instead of conventional paint. The police will also step up their effort to educate both drivers and pedestrians about where those on foot are allowed across. Pennsylvania law requires motorists to stop and give pedestrians crossing the street at a designated crosswalk the right of way.
