Sandy Cleanup Continues

Cleanup and recovery continues a week after Hurricane Sandy blew through Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Montgomery Township offered a weekend tree waste collection in response to extensive damage.  A large construction site dumpster at the William F. Maule Park at Windlestrae was filled with tree branches, and many others bagged, bundled and loose were on the ground.

Resident Ed Allison was there with branches from a maple tree.  He said it blew down in his backyard without causing any damage.

“We’re very blessed that there was no damage to the house or vehicles and nobody got hurt.  I’m a Christian man, and as far as I’m concerned it was Divine Providence for sure.”

Allison’s pickup truck was piled high with branches, and he said he would return with another load.

Keystone Fellowship Church on Stump Road in Montgomery Township was giving out free chicken Thursday Through Saturday for people who lost power during the storm.  They had a truck loaded with 16,000 pounds of frozen, cooked chicken donated by Tyson Foods.  Church Business Administrator Dan Cardone, who was supervising the operation, said helping others is an important part of their faith.

“It’s easy to talk about, but when you have a great opportunity like this that presented itself, a devastating opportunity, but it’s a great opportunity for us to go out and minister to the communities.”

Cardone said they gave chicken to Manna on Main Street in Lansdale and the Keystone Opportunity Center in Souderton, as well as people who came to the church and picked up packages.  He said they gave away most of it by the middle of Saturday afternoon, and they hope to get another load to help feed people in Northern New Jersey and New York City.
