H And K Wants Hilltown To Extend Quarry Deal

The Haines and Kibblehouse paving company is asking Hilltown Township for another 25 years of mining stone at the Blooming Glen Quarry near Forest and Quarry Roads.

Under an agreement reached about seven years ago the company was to close the operation in 2020, but now it wants to keep digging, drilling and blasting until 2045.

It says the poor economy and the slumping construction industry have caused a sharp drop in the demand for quarry products, so the stone supply will not be depleted by 2020 as anticipated earlier.

In return for approval, the company says it will double the township’s discount for stone, sand, concrete and asphalt from five percent to ten percent and turn the property into a ten-acre fishing and boating lake with paved parking and other amenities when it closes the quarry.

The company also owns the H and K Materials Quarry off Skunk Hollow Road in Hilltown.
