Montgomery County Coroner Walter Hofman has identified the man who died Wednesday when he fell to the bottom of a water tower in Lower Providence Township.
He is 31-year-old Jason Schmidt of Jacobus, in York County, Pennsylvania.
He and another man were working inside the empty tank on Featherbed Lane for the Corrosion Control Corporation, which was under contract with the Audubon Water Company.
The men were suspended in harnesses about 40 to 60 feet above the bottom when Schmidt fell and Miguel Martinez of Penns Grove, New Jersey remained suspended in his harness for about three hours until he was rescued.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident, which was apparently caused by an equipment malfunction.
