Blooming Glen Quarry Meeting Set

Hilltown Township will hold a public meeting in February on a request from the Haines and Kibblehouse paving company for another 25 years of mining stone at the Blooming Glen Quarry near Forest and Quarry Roads.

Under an agreement reached about seven years ago the company was to close the operation in 2020, but now it wants to keep going until 2045.

It says the poor economy and the slumping construction industry have caused a sharp drop in the demand for quarry products, so the stone supply will not be depleted by the closing date set earlier.

In return for approval, the company says it will double the township’s discount for stone, sand, concrete and asphalt from five percent to ten percent and turn the property into a ten-acre fishing and boating lake when it closes the quarry.

The meeting date is Wednesday, February 6, at 7:00pm, at the township building on Creamery Road.  In the event of a snow cancellation it will be held the following evening.
