The Super Valu Corporation has agreed to sell the Acme Markets and several other chains to a group of private equity firms and real estate investors for $100 million in cash.
The buyers will also assume more than $3 billion in debt.
There is no word on whether the group will keep the stores open or close them, but Super Valu has closed a number of Acmes in recent years, and one company in the group has a history of buying retail chains, cashing out valuable assets and closing the stores.
Acmes remain open in several locations including Lansdale, Doylestown, New Britain Township, Eagleville, Horsham, Flourtown, Royersford and Dresher.
