State Transportation officials Thursday night held an Open House to answer questions from Norristown residents about the upcoming first phase of the Markley Street Improvement Project. It gets underway next month between Elm Street and Johnson Highway. What's in the works is a complete rebuild of the roadway. It will be widened with a center left turn lane to improve traffic flow and safety. Phase One also includes utility upgrades as well as sidewalk and lighting improvements. The budget is almost 21-million dollars. That includes funding for some improvements on Johnson Highway near its intersection with Markley Street. Southbound traffic will be allowed to travel Markley Street during construction but northbound vehicles will use DeKalb Street as a detour starting in Bridgeport.
