A South Philadelphia priest has been relieved of duty after the archdiocese received an allegation that he sexually abused a minor more than 40 years ago. 72-year-old Monsignor George Mazzotta has agreed not to publicly exercise priestly duties while an investigation is underway. He had previous assignments in Montgomery and Bucks Counties. He was at Saint Paul’s in Norristown, Saints Cosmas and Damien in Conshohocken and Saint Robert Bellarmine in Warrington between the mid 1980’s and early 1990’s. The archdiocese says Cardinal Justin Rigali has reported the allegation to authorities.
