Final Chae Murder Defendant Pleads Guilty

montco_courthouseThe final defendant in a Montgomery Township home-invasion robbery and murder has admitted his role in the crime. His lawyer says 34-year-old Julius Wise of Philadelphia took an offer of a third degree murder guilty plea because he was looking at a mandatory life sentence if a jury found him guilty of second degree murder.  He allegedly helped others plan the home invasion and served as “cleanup man,” getting rid of bloody clothing and other possible evidence.  Prosecutors say he never entered the home of 58-year-old businessman Robert Chae, who was bound, gagged and beaten at his Gwynmont Drive home in January of last year.  Two men found guilty at an earlier trial, Amatadi Latham and ringleader Joseph Page, are serving life in prison without parole.  A jury convicted them of second degree murder and other offenses, but acquitted 19-year-old Karre Pitts.  Three others pleaded guilty earlier to third degree murder including Chae’s nephew, Angelo Shin, who admitted helping the others plan the robbery and showing them his uncle’s home.
