A counselor at a Bucks County agency faces criminal charges for leaving a man in a hot van, where he died. It happened during record heat at Woods Services, a Middletown agency that provides housing and various services for the disabled. 20-year-old Bryan Nevins died from the heat on Saturday, July 24, following a field trip to Sesame Place. Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler says he could not open the door and get out of the van because of his severe autism. Heckler has charged 40-year-old Stacey Strauss of Philadelphia with involuntary manslaughter and criminal neglect in the death. He says it resulted from her criminal failure to discharge her assigned responsibilities. Strauss was suspended from her job last week after working at Woods Services for eight years. The Pennsylvania Welfare Department, which licenses the agency, is conducting a separate investigation.
