Confessed Purse Thief Gets Jail Time

prison_1An Upper Gwynedd woman who admitted stealing another woman’s purse has been given three to twelve months in Montgomery County Prison. 47-year-old Velma McCord of Braeburn Terrace pleaded guilty to theft in the incident, which happened last September in the parking lot of the Weis Market at Valley Forge Road and Sumneytown Pike.  Court documents say the victim started driving away after accidentally leaving her purse in a shopping cart.  When she returned to get it she looked for McCord, who she saw entering the parking lot as she was leaving.  When she found her and asked about the purse, McCord said she had not seen it, but then the victim spotted it in her car.  When police arrived and asked her to empty her pockets they found cash and two credit cards belonging to the victim.
