The verdict is guilty for a teenager charged with shooting another man during a street fight in Norristown last October. 19-year-old Khailyl Chambers was convicted Friday of assault, recklessly endangering another person and firearms violations but acquitted of attempted murder. Prosecutors had no physical evidence tying Chambers directly to the crime but relied instead on the testimony of several witnesses. The defense plans to appeal the verdict because only one of those witnesses claims to have seen Chambers with the gun and his testimony is suspect because he faces drug charges and could be hoping to make a deal with prosecutors in his own case. Chambers is scheduled to be sentenced in December. He will also stand trial in April for two murders outside of a bar in Norristown almost 15-months ago.
