A serial thief has been given jail time for a series of smash-and grab burglaries at small businesses in Montgomery and Bucks Counties. 36-year-old Matthew Hailey of Sugarloaf in Luzerne County was sentenced Monday in Montgomery County Court. He will spend at least 7 1/2 years in state prison for a series of break-ins where doors or windows were smashed or pried open and cash was stolen. The businesses were in Salford, Lower Salford, Upper Salford, Lower Frederick, East Norriton, Skippack, Lower Providence, Worcester, Perkiomen, Marlborough and Upper Hanover Townships and Trappe, Green Lane, Schwenksville, Quakertown and Perkasie Boroughs in late 2007 and early 2008. He told the judge he used the stolen money to buy crack cocaine.
