The mother of a confessed thief from Lower Pottsgrove has admitted running up more than $47,000 in purchases on credit cards her daughter stole. 65-year-old Sharon Speidel of Vineland, New Jersey pleaded guilty to theft Monday in Montgomery County Court. Prosecutors say she used the stolen cards to play at casinos and buy airline and concert tickets. Her daughter, 30-year-old Joelle Speidel, admitted stealing nearly $170,000 from her 91-year-old grandmother, and is currently serving 10 to 23 months in Montgomery County Prison. Prosecutors say she made electronic transfers and check payments for her personal expenses. The thefts came to light last year when her monthly payments to the Dock Woods Retirement Community in Towamencin stopped for lack of funds. Court documents say mother and daughter wiped out the grandmother’s retirement savings in 1 1/2 years.
