A Blue Bell pharmacist is accused of billing Blue Cross for hundreds of prescriptions that were never filled. Carl Dean, who owns the Blue Bell Pharmacy on Route 202, is charged with insurance fraud, forgery and related offenses. He allegedly received more than $86,000 over four years for writing 874 fake prescriptions and submitting them to Independence Blue Cross for Payment. Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman says the prescriptions were in his name, his wife’s name and various children’s names from his pharmacy, and he also used the names of 13 doctors, who confirmed that the scripts were phony. She says all proceeds went to support Blue Bell Pharmacy operations.
