Fire early Friday heavily damaged the Wawa on Main Street in Harleysville. It broke out around 2:00am. Three employees who were on duty at the time escaped un-injured, and firefighters had to wait about 20 minutes for Peco Energy to turn off the electricity before they could start hosing down the fire. It apparently started behind the building in a high-tension power line and spread to the roof, causing damage estimated at $200,000 or more. The store will be closed several weeks for repairs. An Italian restaurant and dry cleaning shop in the same small shopping center were not damaged.
