A Bucks County man who admitted lying on government forms when he tried to buy a firearm at a Hatfield Township gun shop has been given one year on probation. When 76-year-old Joseph Dolan of Lenape Drive in New Britain tried to buy a shotgun in March of 2009 at American Arms and Ammunition on Route 309, he answered “no” to a question about whether he had been convicted of a felony. Court documents say a background check turned up a 1988 conviction for statutory rape. The store refused to sell him the gun, and it reported his false statement to state police. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of un-sworn falsification to authorities.
