Deer Hunter’s Family Sues Manilla

Bucks_County_CourthouseThe family of a Quakertown man has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Montgomery County lawyer David Manilla, who has admitted shooting and killing 52-year-old hunter Barry Groh. The 49-year-old Manilla, of Worcester, is also charged with involuntary manslaughter and other criminal offenses.  Court documents say he admitted firing a high-powered rifle, shooting and killing Groh as he dragged a deer along the Tohickon Creek in Richland Township on opening day of the firearms deer season in late November.  The lawsuit, filed in Bucks County Court, says Groh’s family has been grievously harmed by Manilla’s careless and negligent actions with a high-powered rifle, which is illegal for hunting in Bucks County.  It says Manilla also tried to make himself execution-proof by dissipating his assets as rapidly as humanly possible.  It says he illegally tried to hide assets by transferring four homes he owned to his mother and another to his sister in the days after the shooting.  The suit seeks an injunction voiding the land transfers, as well as damages in excess of $100,000.
