The mother of a confessed thief from Lower Pottsgrove has been given three months in Montgomery County Prison for using credit cards she stole from her mother. 66-year-old Sharon Speidel of Vineland, New Jersey pleaded guilty to felony theft. Prosecutors say she used the cards to play at casinos and buy airline and concert tickets, and also to help her daughter get through financial problems. Her daughter, 31-year-old Joelle Speidel, pleaded guilty to theft and other offenses last year. She admitted stealing nearly $170,000 from her 91-year-old grandmother, and is currently in Montgomery County Prison. Prosecutors say she made electronic transfers and check payments for her personal expenses. The thefts came to light about two years ago when monthly payments to the Dock Woods Retirement Community in Towamencin stopped for lack of funds. Court documents say mother and daughter wiped out the grandmother’s retirement savings in 1 ½ years, but they apparently did not know they were both stealing from the same victim.
