A Hatfield Township man has admitted directing pepper spray at a neighbor following a fight last fall. 25-year-old Steven Sullivan of Stoneham Circle pleaded guilty to simple assault and criminal mischief, and a Montgomery County judge gave him three years on probation. He must also have no contact with the victim and pay more than $5,000 to compensate the victim for the cost of removing the pepper vapor from his home. Court documents say Sullivan returned to the neighbor’s home a few minutes after the fight, armed with a 16-ounce can of pepper spray, which he directed into the victim’s eyes from about two inches away. After that he stood in the doorway and sprayed it around the house. The victim and three other people in the home, including a three-year-old child, had burning eyes and noses and breathing difficulty. Police said Sullivan appeared to be intoxicated when they interviewed him at his home after the incident.
