Manilla Gets Probation, Community Service, For Thefts

gavelA Montgomery County lawyer has been given five years probation on a shoplifting charge. 49-year-old David Manilla of Valley Forge Road in Worcester pleaded guilty to retail theft Wednesday in Berks County Court.  He admitted stealing several items including a flashlight, cookbook, fishing lures and a shirt and pants from Cabela’s Sporting Goods near Hamburg.  The judge also ordered him to do 40 hours of community service and barred him from the store.  He is currently awaiting trial in Bucks County for involuntary manslaughter and other offenses in the shooting death of hunter Barry Groh of Quakertown on opening day of the firearms deer season last November.  The 52-year-old man was shot with a high-powered rifle while dragging a deer along the Tohickon Creek, on public land next to a farm Manilla owned at the time, in Richland Township.  The Groh family has filed a wrongful death civil lawsuit against Manilla.
