Drugs For Sex Doc Gets State Prison Time

pillsA former doctor who prescribed drugs for addicted women in return for sex is heading to state prison for 7 1/2 to 15 years, followed by ten years on probation. 68-year-old Harris Newman pleaded no contest to several felony drug offenses in Bucks County Court.  For sentencing purposes it is treated as a guilty plea.  He ran the County Line Medical Family Practice Center on County Line Road, on the border between Hilltown and Telford, and he lives on Lorien Drive in Lower Gwynedd.  Prosecutors say he would prescribe Oxycodone, Percocet, Xanax, Fentanyl, whatever the women wanted, in exchange for what he wanted.  Court documents say he wrote more than 250 scripts for sex over a five-year period.  One woman told investigators she would get her prescription in the daytime, have it filled, and then return after office hours to have sex with Doctor Newman.  Another woman, 31-year-old Stacey Coffey of Telford, died of an overdose in April of 2010 after taking Oxycodone and other pills he allegedly prescribed for her.  He was not charged in her death.  He lost his medical license and he is barred for life from working in any job where he has access to drugs.
