Man Charged In Souderton Girl’s Murder Waives Hearing

Souderton_GardenThe man accused of killing a nine-year-old Souderton girl entered a not guilty plea Wednesday in Montgomery County Court. 24-year-old James Lee Troutman is charged with first and second degree murder, kidnapping and rape of a child.  Skyler Kauffman was abducted after playing with friends in early May in a parking lot outside the Souderton Gardens Apartments where she lived with her mother and grandmother, at Second and Chestnut Streets near the Hillside Cemetery.  Troutman lived in the same complex.  He told police he choked the victim and hit her head against a concrete floor.  Her body was found late at night in a nearby trash bin.  Skyler Kauffman was a third-grader at EM Crouthamel Elementary School.  The case goes to trial in January, and District Attorney Risa Ferman has said she will seek the death penalty if he is convicted of first degree murder.
