Rapist Gets State Prison Time

A Montgomery County judge has given a Reading man 6 1/2 to 15 years in state prison for raping a developmentally disabled woman. 44-year-old Stephen Cox pleaded guilty to rape and other offenses earlier this year.  At the time of the crime in November of 2008 he was a substitute driver for Tri-County Transit, and he was taking the victim home from a workshop in Hatfield.  After dropping off another woman he drove to a parking lot on Weber Road in Worcester Township, stopped and told her the bus broke down, and then raped her.  Court documents say the woman was 25 to 30 years old, but with the mental capacity of a young child.  Assistant District Attorney Samantha Cauffman said the victim’s mother put her on the bus assuming that she would be safe, and she was raped by one of the people who was supposed to make sure that she was safe.
