Bucks Co Jury Finds Man Not Guilty In 1973 Killing

Bucks_County_CourthouseA Philadelphia man charged with criminal homicide in a Bucks County shooting that happened more than 38 years ago has been acquitted. A jury found 58-year-old Domingo Negron not guilty of first and third degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in the death of Joseph Kwiatkowski, who died about 2 1/2 years ago at the age of 54 while living at a nursing home in Florida, where a medical examiner ruled that his death was a homicide, caused by complications from the gunshot wound he suffered many years earlier.  He was shot in the back during a fight outside the F and M Food Mart, also known as the Hoagie Hut, near the Warminster Heights public housing development in May of 1973.  Defense lawyer Craig Penglase argued that that his client acted in self-defense, or in defense of his brothers and uncle, during a brawl between white and Latino men.  The incident sparked what came to be known as the Lacey Park Mother’s Day Race Riot.
