A Lansdale man is accused of leading police on a chase in a stolen car. It started around 2:00am Saturday, October 22, when police saw a Chrysler 300 backing south on Walnut Street at a high speed, and then turning onto Main Street without stopping. The driver sped west on Main Street, ran a red light at Valley Forge Road and turned onto Squirrel Lane, where he struck a column. He headed northbound on Squirrel Lane, and struck a curb and road sign while trying to turn left onto Peaceful Lane in Hatfield Township, disabling the car. He managed to escape, but police spoke by phone with the owner, who told them 39-year-old Robert Copeland (pictured here) of North Valley Forge Road in Lansdale had taken the car without permission. They found him outside the apartment building where he lived and charged him with theft, fleeing and eluding and several traffic violations.
