Man Gets Jail Time For Shooting Dog

A Bucks County judge has given a man one to 23 months in county prison for shooting a dog 32 times with a pellet gun and leaving it for dead. 40-year-old Paul Xenelis of Quakertown pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.  He was arrested in July after a passerby noticed the dog on the Doylestown Country Club grounds, obviously in great pain.  Xenelis told police he shot the ten-year-old American Bulldog named “Kane” because it bit a co-worker.  He had worked as a golf course superintendent prior to the incident, but he has since been fired.  His lawyer says Xenelis got the dog from a rescue agency to chase away geese at the golf course, but it was aggressive and he had trouble controlling it.  After the shooting police took Kane to the Bucks County SPCA, where he was put out of his pain.
