Accused Drug Doc Has License Suspended

richard_ruthThe state has temporarily suspended the license of a Franconia physician accused of prescribing Oxycodone and other painkillers for anyone who wanted them. 76-year-old Doctor Richard Ruth (pictured here), who lives on Godshall Road and had a medical practice on Cherry Lane, is charged with prescription fraud, insurance fraud and other offenses.  He faces a Monday hearing before the Pennsylvania Board of Osteopathic Medicine to see if there is enough evidence to continue the suspension.  The state Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs says he is a danger to the public.  A bureau investigator’s report says he let patients dictate their prescriptions, and wrote new ones when they made excuses, such as the dog ate the drugs.  Court documents say he preyed on young people between the ages of 20 and 30 who were already addicted.
