Violent crime went down last year in Norristown. The Police Department’s Annual Report says homicides were down by 17 percent, assaults were down by 21 percent and rapes were down by 48 percent compared to the previous year. The bad news is that only two of last year’s five murders were solved, but Police Chief Russell Bono says this is the third time in four years that serious crimes have gone down in Norristown, and it’s largely because of increased cooperation from the public. He says when people come forward with information it helps the police solve a lot of crimes.
