A Hatfield man has admitted striking and seriously injuring a pedestrian in Towamencin Township and then driving away. 55-year-old Mukesh Shah (pictured here) of West Vine Street in Hatfield pleaded guilty Tuesday to recklessly endangering another person, giving false reports to police and other offenses.
The 37-year-old victim, Ester Lee, was hospitalized in critical condition, but she has since recovered.
The incident happened at about 6:00am in March of 2011 on Forty Foot Road near Towamencin Avenue. A witness told police he saw the pedestrian walk into the headlight beam of a blue minivan behind him, and then he noticed a headlight on the minivan was out.
The van kept going and turned onto Sumneytown Pike as Shah drove to his job in Harleysville. The witness’s description and a license plate number led police to Shah’s blue Plymouth Voyager, which he denied driving that day, but his wife had already told police he drove it to work.
