A man accused of collecting money for a home water filtration system that he never installed is moving closer to trial in Bucks County Court. 50-year-old Steven Wiley of Doylestown is charged with theft, deceptive business practices and other offenses. He has waived his preliminary hearing, which means he is conceding that prosecutors have enough evidence to take the case to trial.
Police say he went to an Upper Makefield couple’s home last June, gave them an estimate, and accepted a check for $4,500, but he cashed the check for his personal use and never did the job. Prosecutors say he worked for a company called Hague Quality Water, and he may have victimized other people.
