Montco Man Gets Jail Time For Pedestrian Fatality

An Abington man who admitted killing a pedestrian with his car has been 11 1/2 to 23 months in Montgomery County Prison, followed by three years on probation.

He also faces a one-year suspension of his driver’s license.

29-year-old Donald Dinkins pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence of a controlled substance in the January death of 50-year-old Sharon Minnick of Horsham.  She was struck while crossing Route 611 near Girard Avenue in Horsham.  She flew onto the hood of his Lincoln Town Car and struck the windshield with enough force to smash it and split it open.

Detectives say he was driving at least 59 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone, and if he had been driving at or close to the speed limit the victim would have crossed safely.  A blood test showed that he had marijuana in his system.
