A retired state trooper was killed Wednesday in a Bucks County helicopter crash.
52-year-old Corporal Doug Brigham was an experienced pilot who flew a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter until he retired last year and he had a private helipad in his backyard.
He took off from there shortly before crashing and burning around 6:30 Wednesday morning in a heavily wooded area of Tinicum Township, near Uhlerstown Road and Everbreeze Drive, about a half-mile from the Delaware River and a short distance from his home. He lived with his wife on Everbreeze Drive.
He was a volunteer firefighter with the Delaware Valley Fire Company, also known as the Erwinna Fire Company, and he was coordinator of the Tinicum Township Department of Emergency Management.
He was also a great-grandson of the nation’s 31st president, Herbert Hoover. The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum says his mother was Margaret Hoover Brigham, who died last year at the age of 84, and her father was President Hoover’s eldest son, Herbert Hoover Junior.
