Arbonite Factory Burns Down

Fire has destroyed an industrial building near Doylestown.  The site is on Old Easton Road in Buckingham Township, about 500 feet from the northwestern edge of Doylestown Airport.

It was heavily engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived around 5:30 Tuesday morning, and they brought it under control in about two hours.

It was home to the Arbonite Corporation, a 60-year-old company that makes coating and lining materials for pipes.

The property, valued at more than $1 million, is owned jointly by Arbonite and the Bucks County Industrial Development Authority.

The county Hazmat team was on the scene monitoring air quality during and after the fire, and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection says it did not cause any air or water pollution problems.  The cause is under investigation.
