Perkasie Chief: No Wrongdoing In Marino Shooting

Perkasie’s police chief has concluded that no department procedures were violated in June when a man was shot and killed.

26-year-old Michael Marino of Quakertown was shot after police lost control of a struggle with him.

He was causing a disturbance along Clymer Avenue near the railroad tracks in Sellersville when Perkasie police, who patrol Sellersville, struggled with him and handcuffed him.

Then he started twisting and flailing, kicking Officer Seth Mumbauer, who pulled his service revolver and shot Marino in the chest.  The chief’s report says it was a tragedy, but not the result of wrongdoing by officers.

Marino was suffering from mental illness and drug addiction, and Perkasie Police Chief Joseph Gura says his officers will get additional training in handling people with mental illness.
