Forged Will Gets Woman Jail Time

A Souderton woman who admitted forging her dead husband’s signature on his will and an insurance policy, and lying about it in court, has been given 30 days to 12 months in Montgomery County Prison.

54-year-old Darlene Zachery pleaded guilty to felony perjury in August of 2012.

Her husband, Raymond Zachery, died of an apparent heart attack more than five years ago while washing his truck outside their Souderton home.  He was 47 at the time.

His mother contested the will, saying the signature was forged, and a handwriting expert backed her up during a hearing held two years ago in Montgomery County Orphan’s Court.  The expert said his signature was also forged on a $50,000 life insurance policy.

Prosecutors say Zachery used a computer scan of her late husband’s signature in the forgeries.

She was vice principal of a Lancaster County high school at the time of her arrest in May of 2011, and she was suspended two weeks later.
