Death Penalty Sought In Double Murder

Raghunandan_YandamuriMontgomery County prosecutors will seek the death penalty for a man accused of killing a baby girl and her grandmother last October in King of Prussia.

26-year-old Raghunandan Yandamuri (pictured here) is charged with murder, kidnapping and other offenses.

Court documents say aggravating factors warranting the death penalty include taking a hostage, killing during a felony and killing a child under the age of twelve.

In a video recording played at a November preliminary hearing he told police he never intended to kill anyone, and he just wanted to kidnap the baby for ransom.  He demanded $50,000, the amount he had lost gambling at casinos.

Authorities say 61-year-old grandmother Satayvathi Venna was killed while trying to save ten-month-old Saanvi Venna’s life.

Yandamuri lived at the Marquis Apartments in King of Prussia, where the victims also lived, and he was a social acquaintance of the baby’s parents.

A note left at the scene threatened to throw their daughter’s body parts into their apartment if they told anyone about the note or failed to pay the ransom.
