Ex Penn Prof’s Parole Reversed

The Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole has reversed its recent decision to release confessed wife killer Rafael Robb.

The 62-year-old former University of Pennsylvania professor beat his wife Ellen to death in December of 2006 while she was wrapping Christmas gifts at the kitchen table of their home in the Wayne section of Upper Merion Township.  She was 49 at the time.

He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, saying he committed what he called “a horrific misdeed” in the heat of an argument, and he has served about six years of his five-to-ten-year prison term.  His release had been set for Monday, January 28.

The board says the reversal is based on new information including the recommendation of the trial judge.

It comes two days after Parole Board Chairman Michael Potteiger met with the victim’s brother, Gary Gregory, and Montgomery County State Representative Mike Vereb, who released a letter from the judge urging the board not to free him.

The letter from Judge Paul Tressler, now retired, said he is highly manipulative and he manipulated the parole board into thinking he was not a threat to the public.

He has to wait at least a year before filing another application for parole.
