A Lansdale family is out several thousand dollars after falling prey to a phone scam on June 27th. The caller identified himself as a member of the federal crime control agency, which does not exist. Lansdale Borough Police Sergeant, Alex Kromdyk says the caller told the man, who lives on Cherry street that he owed money. He ordered the man to go to a nearby store.
“Convert cash in to those green dot money packs. Once that done, the victim gives the serial numbers, which you need to cash those money packs out at the other end, give the serial number and that’s it and our victim is over three thousand dollars out on the first scam.”
The first call originated from a Texas exchange. The second time the man was called, the exchange came from North Carolina, but he starting asking questions and the caller hung up. Kromdyk urges people never to give money over the phone, and always consult with police or family when presented with such a situation.
