The man who built a Norristown condo and apartment building that was condemned earlier this year is heading for trial. 46-year-old developer Bruce Fazio of Collegeville is charged with theft, fraud, risking a catastrophe and other offenses. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday in return for having two lesser charges dropped. His Rittenhouse Club on Sandy Street was condemned in May, when a Montgomery County judge found the four-story building structurally unsound just three years after it opened. Some former residents are facing possible financial ruin. Court documents say he took part in every phase of construction and knew about numerous defects, including exposed electrical wires, fire escape stairwells made of wood instead of steel, and a sprinkler system that didn’t work, yet he lied about the problems and tried to cover them up by discouraging residents from reporting them to code enforcement officials.
