Poll: PA Dems Have Tight Senate Race

wnpv_politicsMuhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion Director Chris Borick says the Democratic primary election race between U.S. Senator Arlen Specter and Montgomery and Delaware County Congressman Joe Sestak is too close to call. He says daily tracking polls give Sestak a slight lead, and he picked up momentum at about the time he started running a TV commercial that starts with Specter saying he switched parties to keep his seat, and then shows him with a couple of prominent Republicans.

“It segues into a scene where Rick Santorum and George W. Bush are on a stage with Senator Specter, and President Bush is singing the praises of Specter and saying he’s a good ally and a good supporter, and then it goes back to that same statement, ‘The only reason I’m changing parties is to save my job.’”

Borick says very few people are less popular with Pennsylvania Democrats than Bush and Santorum, and the ad gets to the heart of the Sestak message of electing a real Democrat.  He appeared Tuesday on the WNPV talk program Comment Please by Univest.
