Poll: Specter-Sestak Race Too Close To Call

wnpv_politicsTuesday is Primary Election Day in Pennsylvania, and Franklin and Marshall College Center for Politics and Public Affairs Director Terry Madonna says his latest poll, and a couple of others, all show the same thing in the Democratic race between veteran U.S. Senator Arlen Specter and two-term Congressman Joe Sestak. It’s too close to call.  He says Sestak has captured the lion’s share of undecided voters in the last couple of weeks.

“They’ve gone to Joe Sestak, and that’s what made this election as close as it is.  The battle is for the undecided voters, and for Specter it means he needs to get a lot of conservative Democrats.  They are the largest pool of voters by ideology who haven’t made up their minds and, secondly, he needs a big vote out of Philadelphia, his home base where he does have the support of the unions and the Democratic Party in that city.  That’s going to be an absolute essential for Specter.”

Regardless of Specter’s attacks on his naval service and voting record, Doctor Madonna says, Sestak has presented himself as a true Obama Democrat and a credible alternative to Specter.
