Election Day PA

wnpv_politicsTuesday is Primary Election Day in Pennsylvania, with several people running spirited campaigns. Berks County State Representative Sam Rohrer is an underdog seeking the Republican nomination for governor, and he says the country is headed in the wrong direction.

“What’s happening with the Obama Administration in Washington is they’re intent on just running roughshod over the freedoms of Americans and undermining our constitution and threatening people’s jobs and livelihoods with their policies.  I think certainly it has added to awakening folks because what they’re getting is not the change that they expected, and really in some cases the establishment in both parties appears to be somewhat blind and deaf to the cries of our people.”

Rohrer’s GOP Primary opponent is Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett.  He says the state has been living beyond its means, and the proof is in the budget, which has grown from $22 billion to $28 billion under Governor Ed Rendell.

“I don’t believe the people of Pennsylvania want that, and the economy certainly can’t sustain that.  I think the people of Pennsylvania want what I want to provide, and I describe it in six words.  Fiscal responsibility, and I don’t think we’ve seen that under this governor, limited government, and clearly I don’t believe we’ve seen that under this governor, and then free enterprise.”

Corbett says he will reduce the size of state government by ten percent if he is elected.  Four Democrats are running for governor.  Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato has a big lead in the polls over State Senator Anthony Williams, Auditor General Jack Wagner and Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel.  For the U.S. Senate, incumbent Arlen Specter and Congressman Joe Sestak are neck-and-neck on the Democratic side, while Pat Toomey has a big lead over Peg Luksik on the Republican side.

That comes to mind this week, as the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21) meets in Paris. The…
