Gerlach Sees Competitive Senate Race

wnpv_politicsCongressman Jim Gerlach says he believes the U.S. Senate race between Republican Pat Toomey and Democrat Joe Sestak will be very competitive, but he thinks Toomey has the edge. “Pat Toomey is a very strong candidate for us on the Republican side, and Pat’s been working very hard getting across the state and putting his message out there of lower taxes and getting control of government spending, and I think that’s the direction the voters want to see the federal government go.  At the same time, no one can doubt that Joe Sestak is an extremely hard worker who has worked his buns off to get around the state and ultimately win that primary.”

Gerlach is referring to Sestak’s primary election victory over Republican-Turned-Democrat Arlen Specter.  He says the Democrats have a statewide registration lead, so Toomey will have to work hard to win, but he can do it.  As far as Specter’s attacks on Sestak’s military record are concerned, Gerlach says Sestak served his country in the Navy for 31 years and his record of service is admirable.  Gerlach is running for re-election against Democrat Manan Trivedi in the Sixth District, which includes parts of Montgomery, Chester and Berks Counties.
