Lansdale officials fear that new state stormwater management requirements could be budget busters. The goal of the mandates is improved water quality, but compliance could be very expensive, and Engineering Consultant Jeff Morgan says homeowners adding a deck or other simple improvements should prepare to pay more.
“Definitely more than what they’re used to paying because there’ll be some planning, and there might be additional engineering requirements, some additional stormwater controls. There could be a different type of construction they may need to do, so it definitely is going to add cost.”
The new rules are scheduled to take effect in September, but local officials hope the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection will delay them. Lansdale is one of about 30 Bucks and Montgomery County municipalities in a consortium that has been pushing for more local input into the new regulations.
