Gerlach: Uncertainty Keeps Biz Owners On Sidelines

jim-gerlachCongressman Jim Gerlach (pictured here) says business owners are afraid to invest and create jobs because they see too much uncertainty about what congress will do in the fall. “This Great Unknown out there is such that they’re just sitting and hunkering down on the sidelines and not investing and creating jobs, and we’re wondering why we have a 9.5 percent unemployment rate.”

He says they are afraid business taxes will be increased, and the tax cuts passed seven years ago during the Bush Administration will be allowed to expire, even though House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said she wants to keep the cuts for low and middle-income people.  He says that statement is very interesting.

“For the past seven years she and other prominent folks in the Democrat leadership have denied that the 2003 tax cuts were anything other than tax cuts for the rich.”

After denying it for seven years, Gerlach says Pelosi and the others are finally agreeing that low and middle-income people got tax cuts in 2003.  His district includes parts of Montgomery, Chester and Berks Counties.
