Franklin and Marshall College Center for Politics and Public Affairs Director Terry Madonna says his polls and others have consistently given Republican Tom Corbett a sizable lead over Democrat Dan Onorato in the race for Pennsylvania Governor. He says Onorato has a big disadvantage.
“In a nutshell, here’s what it is. He’s a Democrat who wants to succeed a Democrat, and that is Rendell, whose job performance is 30 percent statewide positive. Now I know he’s popular in the burbs, but if you get outside of the burbs his job performance drops to about 25 percent positive.”
Doctor Madonna says Governor Rendell has been talking day after day about the need for more taxes, and politicians cannot do that in an election year without hurting their party’s ticket. He says a recent poll he conducted showed that 45 percent of Republicans are likely to vote in November, while only 37 percent of Democrats are likely to vote, so Onorato and a few other Democrats are in serious trouble. He appeared Thursday on the WNPV talk program “Comment Please by Univest.”
