Mensch And Wallace Face Off On WNPV

wnpv_politicsRepublican State Senator Bob Mensch and his Democratic opponent Bill Wallace agree more than they disagree on drilling for natural gas in the Marcellus Shale formation, which stretches across Pennsylvania. Wallace says it should be taxed, and we can look at Texas to see why.

“Texas is what it is based on the fact that they’ve taxed their oil and natural gas industry, and for us to say that if we don’t tax this we’ll somehow be able to provide the infrastructure so that companies will want to come in here, I don’t see how that makes any logical sense.”

Mensch says he does not oppose taxing the gas companies.

“I didn’t say we shouldn’t tax Marcellus.  We absolutely have to tax Marcellus.  We need to do it at a reasonable rate, one that will provide the necessary financial resources to the state and the local communities.”

Mensch and Wallace appeared Thursday on the WNPV talk program Comment Please by Univest.  They had only a few differences on the issues, but prior to the broadcast they were angry about attack ad mailings that were sent out on behalf of their campaigns.  They are competing in the November 2 election for the 24th District state senate seat, which includes parts of Montgomery, Bucks, Lehigh and Northampton Counties.
